Glenville, Pa (May 2009) - Metallo Arts has recently announced the introduction of it’s new Outdoor Living Collection, expanding it’s expertise from the Kitchen and Bath Industry to the outdoors. This new line of zinc planters and integrated seating, garden benches and tables, sculptures and other accent pieces was born after the company was contracted by a Manhattan landscape architect to design and construct large zinc planter boxes for an outdoor terrace. The company built a few slip-cast sample planters and it became obvious that this new design idea could become much more than originally anticipated. After just weeks of mass production, bulk shipments of these planters were leaving their Glenville warehouse at an unbelievable rate, proving to them that an outdoor collection was an excellent idea and long overdue.

Since the introduction of their new website this past month featuring a section all about the new collection, Metallo Arts has gotten numerous inquiries about their outdoor furnishings. “These planters are going to be huge!” Christopher Plummer, founder and CEO of Metallo Arts remarked in the shop one afternoon. “I think a lot of the reason that these planters have proven themselves so popular is because of the unique characteristics that they offer. Zinc wears really well and has a charming patina that concrete planters don’t offer. Our planter design is also modular which offers different achievable affects. They can by stacked or sat side by side. It’s a really neat concept,” Vice President of Design and Development for Metallo Arts, Nathaniel Tainter says about the new collection.

As a company of artists, Metallo Arts is constantly brainstorming to find new ways of introducing fine art into every home. Their production style and custom range hoods were just the start. In late 2008 the company partnered with Delaubrac and became a distributor of their high end French ranges. The company soon took over the kitchen industry and began offering zinc, pewter, bronze and copper countertops along with specialty metal cabinetry. Within just two years, even in the midst of a recession, the company was able to expand it’s products and services far beyond it’s original foundation of one prototype of range hood. Now this outdoor collection is just the start of yet another venture for this ever expanding company.

Glenville, PA (May 2009) - A new web redesign by Metallo Arts brings a complete showcase of fine art and custom design to the world wide web after partnering with CLiP Trending. Clip Trending is a marketing firm that specializes in social and viral marketing, primarily for the Kitchen and Bath Industry. Since February of 2009, the two companies have been spending most of their time completely redesigning the website from the ground up, adding new photographs of recent works, some art history tid-bits, a detailed “about” section, a fully functional custom range hood builder and a new and up-to-date blog outlining recent in-shop events and up-and-coming projects. Nathaniel Taintor, Vice President of Design and Development for Metallo Arts sums up the reason behind the new web redesign in the company’s blog. “We’d grown so fast as a company that our old site was not showing what we could do. Within a little over two years, we’d grown from a prototype of a single range hood to a company doing all kinds of artistic metalwork.”

The new “outdoor living” collection of zinc planters and benches, slip-cast zinc and pewter countertops, a new line of metal cabinetry and information on recent exterior projects are all additions to the new Metallo Arts’ website. A few sections, such as information on custom and production style range hoods which were the company’s original foundation, were pulled over from the old site as well. Randi Chandler, Senior Account Executive for CLiP Trending, discussed her optimism about the website. “We have gotten a lot of positive feedback from long-time clients as well as from people who are calling in and saying that they just stumbled across the site while surfing the web. I think that the importance of having a good web presence to represent your company is underestimated, and response from Metallo’s web redesign is proof of just that.”

Because of the positive response that Metallo Arts has received through the new website, CLiP Trending has pushed for the company and it’s employees to utilize other online tools and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter even more to help reach out to the design community and spread fresh ideas and inspiration to others. Metallo Arts has surely taken hold of this new concept with regular blogging and updates on sites such as these. Look for Metallo Arts on Facebook, keyword Metallo Arts.

Glenville, PA (May 2009) - Metallo Arts is announcing a new line of slip-cast zinc and pewter counters which combine the textured look and ornate patterns of classical French pewter bars with the workability, ease of cleaning, and affordability of sheet metal. The company’s revolutionary new techniques of casting metal are the result of nearly two tears of experimentation, and a provisional patent is pending. Christopher Lee Plummer, the company’s founder and CEO, declines to discuss details of technique, preferring to let the finished work speak for itself. “I’ve been fascinated for years by the details of cast pewter edges on old-time French bars, and after spending countless nights and weekends trying to figure out a cost-effective way of reproducing those details, I think I’m finally able to do everything that can be done with traditional sand-casting methods - and then some.”

This new method of fabrication allows much more complex and ornate edge profiles than counters produced with sheet zinc or pewter. Because the need for specialized molds is eliminated with the low-temperature slip casting method, Metallo Arts is able to produce ornate edge details along rounded bar faces and radiused corners that would otherwise require a custom mold, costing many thousands of dollars if done with these traditional casting methods. Cast metal also virtually eliminates the unsightly visible seams which are typically seen in sheet zinc counters at corners and joints between sheets.

Metallo Arts’ collection of ornamental edges - which includes such classical motifs as a meander and rosettes pattern, acanthus scrolls, and oak leaves - is a great illustration of the possibilities of slip cast metal countertops. But cast metal works equally well in simpler, more modern countertops, table tops, and bars. The texture of cast metal - slightly rough, with pitting and mottling - is pleasant to touch, easy to clean, and develops a deep and rich patina as it ages. Christopher Plummer says that the few clients who have received his slip-cast countertops have been uniformly awed. Jay Lowe, a long-time client of Metallo Arts, used one of the first of Plummer’s slip-cast counters as a back bar in an entertaining room. “I returned home from a business trip and my wife said, ‘Come and look at my counter!’ When I walked in and turned on the lights I stood there in disbelief, gawking like a deer in headlights. I was completely stunned and couldn’t believe what I was looking at,” he said enthusiastically when asked about his counter, only to add, “Chris is the best, a secret that is now being exposed to the rest of the world. Too bad for me.”

May 3rd giveaway is result of collaboration between design blog and two appliance manufacturers

Kitchen and Residential Design, St. Petersburg, FL-based kitchen designer Paul Anater’s daily design blog; and Blomberg, the German manufacturer of luxury dishwashers, clothes washers and refrigerators, have teamed up to commemorate Blomberg’s attendance at 2009’s K/BIS, the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show.

Beginning on Wednesday, 15 April 2009, kitchen design fans are encouraged to direct their browsers to the landing page of Paul Anater’s daily design blog, Kitchen and Residential Design. Once there, they can enter for a chance to win a Blomberg DW361 by leaving a comment that says “I want a Blomberg Dishwasher!” Interested parties can also register for the drawing at Blomberg’s K/BIS booth, C1918 in the Georgia World Congress Center.

On the afternoon of 3 May 2009, all of the entrants’ names from both KitchenAndResidentialDesign.com and the Blomberg trade show booth will be added together and a winner will be selected at random. The winner will then have the option to select a Blomberg DW361 with a stainless steel front panel or a Blomberg DW36100, a panel-ready model. If the lucky winner selects the DW36100, he or she will then qualify for an additional prize of a $1500 custom dishwasher panel from Metallo Arts, Inc.

This is a prize with a potential value of $2500, and what a way to welcome Blomberg to KBIS!

Notes for the editor:

About Blomberg

Blomberg is new to the US, but they’ve been a German brand since 1883. Blomberg is owned by Arçelik, the Turkish conglomerate who sell appliances in over 100 countries around the world.
All Blomberg dishwashers have stainless steel interiors and all of them feature an in-line water heating system. Unlike most American dishwashers which have heating elements inside of them. These elements waste energy, make the wash cycles take too long and prevent a dishwasher from attaining an optimal temperature. An in-line heating system has no heating element, instead the water is heated directly as it’s piped into the machine. This maintains a water temperature of 165 degrees while using far less energy. No heating element also means that you can place plastic ware in the lower rack.
Blomberg dishwashers are the quietest on the market due to their unique, three-layer insulation system. Their dishwashers have an on-board water filtration system and some models have a built in water softener. The racks inside are fully adjustable and in a tip of the hat to appliance installers everywhere, a Blomberg dishwasher’s rear leveling legs are adjustable from the front of the machine. If you’ve ever wrestled with a dishwasher installation, that’s a very welcome feature. www.blomberginternational.com

About Kitchen and Residential Design

Paul Anater’s daily design blog, Kitchen and Residential Design, is seen by more than 3,000 people each week. Every day, Paul addresses an aspect of design with an emphasis on kitchens. Readers turn to his blog for advice on everything from appliances to counter materials, from cabinetry to lighting, from wall colors to flooring. Through his blog, he seeks to dispel the myths and misinformation that surround the design process and to share a few laughs (and snarky commentary) about life along the way. www.kitchenandresidentialdesign.com

About Metallo Arts

Metallo Arts is an independent appliance manufacturer with roots in the fine arts. The company first made waves two years ago with the launch of a unique line of heavy-gauge steel range hoods with designs inspired by architectural metalwork. Since then, the company has maintained an intensive schedule of development, releasing new product lines several times a year. Most recently, the company has branched out into kitchen surfaces with its unique “slip-cast” pewter and zinc countertops; and outdoor furniture with its garden benches and zinc planter boxes. www.metalloarts.com

As you prepare your spring home stories, please consider an interview with either Christopher Plummer, the artistic driving force behind Metallo Arts; or Paul Anater, the kitchen designer whose blog has people talking or Bernie von der Leith, the marketing genius who brought the Blomberg brand to North America.
